Vikira Pitru Śrāddha Yagya, 11 Vedic pandits, 1 day, October 9th, 2026.

The Vikira Pitru Śrāddha Yagya is complementary to the Pitru Paksha yagya and is a special Vedic rite performed to bring satisfaction and relief to ancestors whose death or post-mortem condition is considered especially unsettled. The Skanda Purāṇa, however, gives it a particularly significant purpose for certain kinds of death.

The Skanda Purāṇa, Nāgara-khaṇḍa 218, says that persons of the family who have suffered premature or accidental death attain healing and satisfaction when vikīra yagya is performed.

It is performed for those:

• who died prematurely or accidentally,
• who died without receiving proper cremation,
• …and certain others whose death or circumstances left the normal funerary process incomplete.

The purpose of this yagya is not merely to “remember” the dead. It is a Vedic intervention to heal and uplift the subtle condition of the departed.

In this regard the yagya is not simply as something done for the ancestors but to support the restoration of the Pitṛ–descendant relationship.
When the Pitṛs are satisfied, they can more appropriately function as Pitṛ-devatās—ancestral powers supporting the continuation of the family line.
