This yagya combines sustained recitation of the Gayatri Mantra with the protective emphasis of the Sudarshan Kavacham. Gayatri is traditionally regarded as Vedamata, the Mother of the Vedas, and is associated with knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual illumination.

This yagya was recently recommended by Jaikrishna, Vedic scholar and Jyotish pandit, as one of a number of yagyas supportive for the current period. Its particular intention is group protection. Rather than addressing a single personal concern, the performance is directed toward supporting the yajamanas collectively during a period for which additional Vedic support has been recommended. Protective kavachams are traditionally used for this purpose, with their recitation directed toward protection from adverse influences and greater stability during difficult conditions.

At the heart of the Purusha Charan is the Gayatri Mantra, the Vedic verse found in Rigveda 3.62.10 and addressed to Savitr. The verse asks that the divine light of Savitr inspire and guide the intellect. Purashcharana is a traditional practice of sustained mantra repetition over a defined period, making the extended recitation itself central to this 21-day performance. In the Vedic Legacy material, Gayatri practice is likewise associated with knowledge and wisdom and, traditionally, with spiritual development and liberation.

The yagya is centered on Gayatri, with the Sudarshan Kavacham adding the protective influence of Sudarshana. A kavacham is understood as a protective text, and Vedic Legacy has previously used kavacham chanting in yagyas intended for collective protection during periods of external uncertainty.

For the yajamana, the traditional intention of this combined performance is protection, clarity, and steadiness. Gayatri addresses the quality of intelligence and right direction, while the Sudarshan Kavacham addresses protection. In this performance, those two purposes are brought together over 21 consecutive days, with the yajamanas participating in a collective yagya specifically recommended for the present period.
