Yamuna Pushkaram Yagya – to honor the sacred river,
clear karmic debts, and receive Yamuna Devi’s grace
Yamuna Pushkaram Yagya
Yagya Announcement: Yamuna Pushkaram Yagya
Yamuna Pushkaram Yagya June 2–13, 2026. 11 pandits, 11 days.
The Yamuna Pushkaram Yagya is a Vedic yagya dedicated to the Yamuna River, performed during the Pushkaram festival period. Pushkaram is observed on each of India’s twelve sacred rivers on a rotating cycle, and Yamuna’s turn comes once every twelve years, when Jupiter transits Virgo. The 2026 observance falls June 2–13, performed by 11 pandits over 11 days.

The yagya is performed to honor the Yamuna as a living deity, known in the Vedic tradition as Yami, daughter of Surya and sister of Yama. The Yamuna holds a distinct place among the sacred rivers, associated with devotion, the removal of sin, and liberation. Pushkaram is the appointed time when her presence and receptivity are considered strongest, making this one of the few windows in a generation for yagyas performed specifically in her name.
The mantras chanted in this yagya draw from Vedic hymns to the river deities, including verses from the Rigveda addressing the Sapta Sindhu, the seven sacred rivers, as well as specific stotras to Yamuna Devi. These texts are traditionally chanted to seek purification, the release of ancestral debts, and the blessings of the divine river’s grace.
Traditionally, participation in Yamuna Pushkaram yagyas is said to clear karmic burdens accumulated over many lifetimes, particularly those connected to ancestral lineage. For the yajamana, the attributed benefits include purification, removal of obstacles, and the grace of Yamuna Devi extended to the yajamana’s family line. Because the window is twelve years in the making, this performance will not recur in its current form until 2038.
