Vishnu: Arogya Ojvardhini Shri Vishnu Yagya for health and vitality
Arogya Ojvardhini Shri Vishnu Yagya
Yagya Announcement: Arogya Ojvardhini Shri Vishnu Yagya
22 November to 12 December, 2026 (IST). 21 pandits, 21 days.
The Arogya Ojvardhini Shri Vishnu Yagya is a Vedic yagya dedicated to Lord Vishnu and performed for health and vitality. The name states its purpose: arogya means freedom from disease, and ojvardhini means that which increases ojas.
Twenty-one pandits will perform it over 21 days, from 22 November to 12 December, 2026. Vishnu is the deity who sustains and preserves creation, and in the Puranas he takes form as Dhanvantari, the physician of the devas, who rose from the churning of the ocean carrying the pot of amrita.
The yagya is performed to ask Vishnu for restored health and lasting strength. Yajamanas commission it during long illness, while recovering from surgery or treatment, or when energy and resistance have worn down over time.
Traditionally, it is also taken up by people who are well, as a practice to keep their strength through a demanding period or as they grow older. It may be performed for oneself or for a family member whose health is a concern.

The yagya centers on ojas, a principle drawn from Ayurveda. According to the Charaka Samhita, ojas is the refined essence of the body’s tissues, and its strength governs resistance to disease and the capacity to recover.
When ojas is depleted, the body tires easily and illness takes hold more readily. The yagya addresses Vishnu in his role as sustainer, the aspect of the divine that maintains what already exists, and asks that this support be directed to the yajamana’s body and vital strength.
Traditionally, the yagya is associated with recovery from illness, greater resistance to disease, steadier energy, and a slower decline with age. Because ojas sustains the mind as well as the body, its benefits extend to mental clarity and emotional steadiness. A yagya’s strength is measured by the number of repetitions performed, which is why this yagya is offered with 21 pandits over 21 days.
